Painting and Drawing apps

I recently had a parent ask about art type apps for their teenager to use on the iPad. I am not an artist in any sense of the word. My stick figure people and animals used to draw laughs from my students. So through a little research I came across this blog post from Graphite which is part of the Common Sense Media site.
It listed seven apps for painting and drawing that have been reviewed by the group at Common Sense.
Each app links to their review with price, pros & cons, and recommendations for use.

Draw and Tell - by Duck Duck Moose!

Sketch Guru - by Handy Sketch Pad

Brushes 3

Sumopaint

Sketchbook Pro

Procreate

ArtStudio

Common Sense Media reviews Movies, Games, Apps for parents so they know what is appropriate for their child. There is also a great Educator Section. And if you are looking for great Digital Citizenship resources, look no further than Common Sense Media's Digital Citizenship Curriculum.

How to record, trim, edit, and share videos on an iPhone or iPad

From the iMore blog comes a great tutorial on:

How to record, trim, edit, and share videos on an iPhone or iPad.

Taking video is pretty easy with your device, but what to do with it when you finished recording.  Follow their post to find out what you can do with just the iPhone or iPad with no other apps required.

50 things you didn't know you could do with Google

While on the Google search page today, I noticed below the search box in a small print, "50 things you didn't know you could do with Google".

So I clicked the link and up came flip cards of things I could do with the Google products, like GMail, calendar, maps, YouTube...

Check it out and see if there is something you didn't know you could do with Google.

Additions to OneNote

I have blogged about Microsoft's OneNote before. http://scottfirenza.blogspot.com/2014/02/onenote.html

I use it for my daily note taking app and like it personally over Evernote.I have OneNote installed at work through our Microsoft Office license, as an app on my iPhone and iPad, and online, which I use mainly when I am out and about with my Chromebook.

1. It's Free!
2. It syncs across all of my devices!
3. It does require a Microsoft account, but that is free, too!

Recent updates seemed to have improve this product even more.

1. Use the Clip to One Note functionality.

Visit https://www.onenote.com/Clipper/OneNote in any major browser and drag the Clip to OneNote button to your bookmarks bar.

Now, when you visit a website that you want to keep a record of, just click the Clip to OneNote button you just added to your bookmarks/favorites bar.
If you have note logged in, you will be prompted to do so.
The page is saved to your online OneNote account. The note saved to my QuickNotes section of my notebook. I can now manipulate this to another notebook or section of my notebook as needed.

2.  Taking a picture with the iPhone or iPad.
Microsoft has built its Office Lens app into OneNote for the iPhone and iPad. This allows users to take pictures of whiteboard notes, receipts and other documents and have them rendered more readable.
iosupdate
Just click the camera icon and select between whiteboard, photo, or document.

If you are looking for a good notes solution, give Microsoft OneNote a try.
