The next few posts will look at some of the free options out there for formative and summative assessments taken online through student devices either through a 1:1 or BYOD option.
Socrative - http://www.socrative.com/ allows "teachers to engage their classrooms through a series of educational exercises and games via smartphones, laptops, and tablets."
Very easy to setup and use. There is a teacher sign up that allows for student upload, creation of quizzes, Multiple choice, true/false, and short answer questions, exit tickets, and games.
Socrative works with all web-enabled devices either through a modern browser or apps to download from iTunes or Google Play. There are also teacher versions of the app. iTunes or Google Play
From a browser or app, students can enter the room number the teacher provides and join the room.
Once in the room teachers can start the activity for the students to complete.
This could be a great solution for classrooms that have students bringing in multiple devices or a classroom that has access to a cart of laptops, iPads, or other devices.
Make sure to check out the User Guides and Videos that other teachers have created about using Socrative in their classroom.
